The Veteran of the week was Kenneth Roberts from Shawnee;
Kenneth treated all of us to a very good lunch Thursday at Libby’s restaurant
in Goldsby. Our tradition at Veterans Corner
has been for one of the veterans rated at 100% each week to buy lunch.
We have also started a fund to be used help other Veterans or
spouses in need. Maybe next week if you stopped by it could be your turn
to be rated by the Veterans Administration in the following months. We
were able to assist over 20 Veterans in Norman
Wednesday and over 100 Thursday in Goldsby
Thursday.
The Veteran driving the longest distance was from the Tulsa
area. There were 9 who were rated at the 100% rate last week and many
more with from 10% to 90%. There were 4 who were from the Iraq
war who stopped by for assistance. This small group of Veterans has been
shouldering the burden for many in this generation. As I have stated
before never have so few done so much for so many. Today’s Veterans are
the best that I have met with each one of them volunteering themselves to serve this great nation.
With the elections coming up maybe our politicians will try to help
these young men and women as they resume their civilian lives. We continue to need more staff to help
with the paper work of our Veterans and drivers to take some of them to
their appointments.
I will be in Norman
on Wednesday at the American Legion building 710 East Main from 730 am and in Goldsby at the Community Bldg. From 630 am until 1pm.
