Thursday we had over 100 veterans
and widows who needed help with their VA claims. By the time we finished
the last one it was 3pm two hours after our usual closing time. All of
our staff worked very hard processing each veteran. Our weekly lunch at Libby’s restaurant
was sponsored by Jack Cook of Enid and
Richard Hart of Shawnee.
These men were recently rated for their disabilities by the VA regional
office in Muskogee.
We want to publicly thank both of them for their military service and for
a great lunch at Libby’s.
If you are in our area around 1045
am any Thursday join us as we celebrate with our veterans. There were 85
who were present for our lunch last week. The veteran who traveled the
longest distance was from the Dallas
area. When I feel that we are close to working all of the local veterans
another 30 or 40 show up who have never filed a claim before.
I have been working with the
Cleveland County Veterans Memorial committee. They are excepting names of
any veteran who has ever lived or stationed in Cleveland County.
This Memorial is to be dedicated in November of this year. If you need an
application call me or stop by on Wednesday or Thursday.
June was our record for the number
of claims approved. If our numbers
stay up we will need some more volunteers to help our Veterans. The men
who are taking our veterans to their QTC rating appointments are doing an
exceptional job. We salute each and every one of you. Last week a man who
got out of the Army in 1936 stopped by for assistance filing a claim. It
is great to visit with these men and to be able to help. This veteran was
part of the horse drawn artillery as a gunner.
A lot of history stops by every
Thursday in Goldsby.
