Last Thursday we had 80
turnout for our lunch at Libby’s and over 70 veterans seeking help
with their claims for benefits. Without the help of all of the men and
women who care about our veterans this project would not be possible. Of
the men and women that we processed last week there were 17 new claims
for benefits. Most of the applicants will be able to receive a favorable
rating from the VA regional office in Muskogee.
When we start a claim for benefits the time it takes for a decision from
them is usually from 60 to 120 days. There were 4 men who were rated at
the 100% rate last week with many others from 10% up to 90 %. Our men and
women who provide transportation were able to take 6 veterans to the VA
hospital and to other VA appointments last week.
There were several Gulf
War Veterans who we helped to file for benefits Thursday also. We
continue to have some veteran’s widows and Veterans from all around
the state stop by with questions.
Angi Bruss from OPUBCO Communications Group stopped by with
questions about what services we provide for our Veterans last week.
We appreciate any help we
can have in getting the word out about our desire to make our Veterans
lives more fulfilling. I keep watching the reports about the war and
seeing the same servicemen and women going back over there for 2 or 3
times. I have stated in the past that there has never been a time in our
history when so few have done so much for so many in our great land.
Our local VFW and
American Legion have been trying to recruit new members while we work
claims out here at Goldsby. If you are eligible to join these
organizations I recommend all of them as they are our voices in Washington
DC.
Congressman Cole’s office has been very supportive of our Veterans
when they need assistance with VA questions and we would like to publicly
thank Mr. Cole and his staff for their assistance.
