VETERANS CORNER

VFW Post 4890

By: Dale K. Graham, Service Officer

Being off for one week was great, but catching up on all of our veterans claims was very difficult. Thursday we saw 71 veterans who needed a helping hand with their claims and questions about VA benefits. We had approximately 9 claims approved last week and had 65 for our weekly lunch at Libby’s café.

I have been trying to be ready for the holidays by having the grilled chicken salad for lunch each Thursday. The Veterans Corner crew tells me that I won’t lose any weight eating that type of food if I keep having the Blackberry cobbler and ice cream with my lunch. Maybe I will just forget about losing and keep enjoying the cobbler until after the New Year rolls around.

This last week the man who drove the longest distance was from Wapanucka Ok. He was the 2nd veteran who was from that area. Bud Turner has been taking some more sick leave, maybe he will be able to return after the holidays. With out the help of Bud and the men and women who help every week this program would not work.

I appreciate all of the time that is donated to our program to help our Veterans and their families. I continue to see more Gulf War veterans stopping by with questions about benefits that they may be entitled to. If you or anyone that you know of were in the military Active duty, Reserve or National Guard stop by you may be missing out on some type of benefit.

Our VFW website continues to grow with more people using the internet this will be a very important tool for our Veteran and their families. We will be closed at Goldsby this week for Thanksgiving.

On Wednesday I will be at the Norman American Legion building at 710 East Main from 8am until 1130am. Dale K. Graham VFW service Officer Post 4890.
