Last Thursday our Veteran of the week was Mr. Billy Adkins of Goldsby .We appreciate his
service to our country during WW II and for the support we receive from
him at our Veterans Corner.
There were 86 in attendance for our lunch at Libby’s café Thursday.
We provided assistance to over 100 men and women last week with their
claims and questions about VA benefits. The men and women who served in
the Gulf War are beginning to find time to stop by for information about
VA benefits.
Our request for volunteers has added several new helpers to our
staff at the Goldsby
Community center.
As the number of Veterans increases we continue to need to add new men
and women volunteers. We need people that to make copies, to fill out
forms, help us to stay organized, clean, and drivers to take some of our
Veterans to appointments in OKC. It is very rewarding to help make other
peoples lives more rewarding.
Last week the Veteran traveling the longest distance was from
Atoka. We had several more that were rated at the 100% rate and many more
from 10% to 80%. Many of the men and women who stop by were never aware
that there is help available from the VA for them. The Veterans who are
rated at the 100% rate will receive 30000 dollars per year for their
injuries that are service connected by the VA Regional office in Muskogee.
