Last Thursday there were over 100 Veterans seeking assistance from
our group of volunteers at the Goldsby Community Center.
Our Veteran of the week who sponsored our weekly lunch at Libby’s
restraunt was Mr. RJ Abney of Wayne. We all
appreciate RJ for his military service and for the great lunch.
We continue to expand our operation with more men and women
offering to help us to serve our heroes. If you are able to help out stop
by the Community center and let’s talk.
At this time we are working with several widows of Veterans who
should be able to receive some monetary benefits from VA for their
husband’s military service. One of
the men that we filed a claim for service connection of an injury that
occurred in 1966 while on active duty was pleasantly surprised to receive
a 100% rating for those injuries. This will entitle him to $2700 per
month, plus other benefits. We continue to see both men and women
Veterans who have never known about their VA benefits.
As I have said before anyone who served in the National Guard,
Reserve or regular military service maybe eligible to receive benefits.
We continue to see many men and women who served in the Vietnam
Theater who have not taken advantage of the Agent Orange screening.
If you received a VSM please stop by and let us set you up for the
screening offered by the OKC VA Hospital. I will be at the American
Legion 710 East Main in Norman from 730am till 11am each Wednesday and in
Goldsby at the new Community bldg from 630 am till 2 pm each Thursday.
