VETERANS CORNER

VFW Post 4890

By: Dale K. Graham, Service Officer

Last Thursday we were joined by over 80 Veterans and family members for our weekly lunch at Libby’s restaurant in Goldsby. As usual everyone enjoyed the meal and the fellowship with their fellow Veterans.

Our volunteer drivers were able to help 3 men who needed rides to the OK City VA hospital last week.  There were visitors from Indiana, Arkansas and California who stopped by to find out about VA benefits. I believe that our benefit counselors were able to help them with their claims. We were able to process 55 claims for our Veterans.

We continue to see more men and women that have served in the Gulf and Afghanistan Wars. These young men and women may need more help as time goes on. Most of them are just glad to be home and have not thought about the problems that war sometimes causes.

If you know of someone who was recently discharged tell them about the service that we provide for them. Everything that we do is free and is for the benefit of our Veterans, We owe these young men and women our thanks for doing a very tough job.

I have been thinking of the men who were aboard the USS OKLAHOMA on December 7, 1941. There Memorial was dedicated last week and it brings to the forefront the sacrifices these men gave for our country. We can never thank our Veterans and Military members enough for the sacrifices they have made.

There were 2 brothers who have joined our staff recently Joe Green of Tuttle and Robert Green of Purcell were welcomed on board last week. Our website continues to be a big help to our veterans, log on at www vfwpost4890.org.
